ZoomAlong - Explore Learning Together

Hello, thank you for visiting us. We’re delighted that you’re here!
We provide online sessions for children covering a wide variety of themes from art to show and tell to fractions. Small groups of no more than 8 allow us to really get to know the children and help them along with their education. We’re starting out with a Maths for Confidence workshop, aimed at Years 6-8, and an Exploring Numeracy workshop, aimed at Years 4-6. Both workshops will have a maximum of 4 children in them.

Our Session Leader

Sharon

Sharon began her teaching career over 25 years ago in upper primary, and was very soon mentoring student teachers, delivering training in ICT and overseeing residential activities. After a move to Cumbria in 2002 and a year managing a hotel, she chose supply teaching, thus working in a wide range of schools, gaining invaluable experience with all ages, backgrounds, needs and abilities…

What does a ZoomAlong workshop look like?

Typically, a ZoomAlong workshop will consist of 4 x weekly half hour sessions with the same leader, or teacher, via Zoom. So this might be, in the case of Maths for Confidence, 30 minutes each Thursday, at the same time, using the same Zoom link each time.

Inside the Zoom session, the leader will predominantly use Jamboard to collaborate with the children. Jamboard is an interactive whiteboard developed by Google. The children will work with the session leader and other children for 30 minutes.

Once the session has ended, the session leader will email a ‘Takeaway’ to all participants. More information about a Takeaway. At the end of a 4 week workshop, participants will be emailed a Certificate, and invited to join the next workshop.

Our Philosophy

We provide online sessions for children covering a wide variety of themes and subjects. Curriculum areas are tackled through learning that is interesting and relevant, in an environment that encourages exploration and a learning partnership between child and tutor. Small groups (size may vary depending on subject, but with a maximum ceiling of 8) allow us to really get to know the children and help them along with their education. Classes can be selected based on interest and do not need to be followed in a linear fashion (unless recommended by the individual tutor). Our classes are gentle and fun, while supporting curriculum concepts.

No Pressure

We understand the pressures that children can feel, not only in the classroom, but also the (perhaps perceived) social pressures regarding their academic abilities. As far as academic pressure goes, we aim to build confidence. We do not give marks out of ten, we don’t have winners and losers, and we don’t place the children under any pressure to perform. Children engage with their learning better when they are happy and comfortable. We know that feeling happy and comfortable will also help them escape from feeling any social pressures so keenly.

Life Long Learning

We believe in equipping your children with the skills to be able to learn for the rest of their lives. By exploring at each point, their favourite way to learn, by listening to other children and learning from them too, we believe they will be able to be independent thinkers and will grow in confidence.
